Japan is aiming to collect fees to limit tourists to Mount Fuji

Content
Currently, Mount FUji’ base is crowded with a lot of mountain climbers, causing dirtiness because when people are crowded, the amount of garbage will follow, or some climbers don’t have travel-ready equipment, such as wearing sandals, which are prohibited from climbing high mountains. In the past year, statistics have been compiled that 5,000,000 tourists have come to Mount Fuji, causing many problems, including the garbage that people in the surrounding communities face and the increasing amount of carbon dioxide emissions.
Starting to collect from 1 July 2024
At present, policies have been established to relieve the crowd. Therefore, an additional fee of 2,000 yen is charged per mountain climber which is 3,000 yen combined with the old fee of 1,000 yen, or 720 baht, starting from July 1, 2024, with a limit of only 4,000 people a day. Also promote safety in which hikers must be equipped with equipment and safe shoes.
Governor of Yamanashi Prefecture
The governor of Yamanashi said the increased regulations would promote the safety and cleanliness of the area to show that Mount Fuji, which is a treasure trove of the world, is important for everyone to take care of.
The additional regulation is that tourists will not be allowed to travel between 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. since some hikers have been climbing without a lodge and have no accommodation bookings, as there is a trend for the climbers to conquer a height of 3.776 meters without resting, causing a risk of accidents due to fatigue. If there is no toll collection or restrictions on the number of people, it is impossible to control the mountaineers’ amount. The increasing regulations are to prevent and reduce the risk of tourists because 61 emergency cases were reported last year which were about tourists suffering from High-altitude illness and lower body temperatures from walking during cold nights.
For those who plan to visit Mount Fuji, you need to check these increasing regulations on their social media for updates on the daily number of tourists. For those who want to visit Mount Fuji without paying more, there are other options such as traveling to Shizuoka because there are no plans to raise the cost of going to Mt. Fuji.
