Biometric Face Scanning at the airport
AOT is now leveraging its Facial Recognition, Automated Biometric Identification System (BIOMETRIC) technology to identify passengers, reduce queuing, increase convenience, and provide a safer travel experience for passengers. This service will cover the six airports of AOT consisting of Suvarnabhumi Bangkok International Airport (BKK). ) Don Mueang International Airport (DMK ) Chiang Mai International Airport (CNX) Mae Fah Luang Chiang Rai International Airport (CEI) Phuket International Airport (HKT) and Hat Yai International Airport (HDY).
Leading airports in many countries worldwide have begun implementing this Biometric system to improve safety and facilitate passengers such as Changi Airport, Singapore, Dubai Airport, United Arab Emirates, Hartsfield-Jackson Airport, Atlanta, United States, Sydney Airport, Australia, and Haneda, Japan. Thailand is in a group of the world’s first countries to adopt the system within the airport as well.
When will the face scanning system be activated?
Domestic passengers can use it first on November 1, 2024, and on December 1, 2024, the system will be available for international passengers.
Steps in Face Scanning at Check-in
Passengers who want to use the Biometric system can register for use when they check-in at the airport. There are two methods:
- Counter Checking
Passengers inform airline officials to register their faces in the Biometric system via the CUTE system. The system stores face information and travel documents in the form of a token in the system.
- Self-check-in at CUSS
Formerly, after check-in, passengers could select the next airline, then select “Enrollment”, then scan the barcode from the boarding pass, attach a passport or ID card, and scan the face as the last step. It will also store face information and passenger travel documents in the form of a token in the system as well.
Once completed, passengers are considered to agree to use personal identification information. This system allows passengers to travel quickly and safely without having to carry a passport or boarding pass.
