9 additional approved countries to enter China without a visa, stimulating the economy

The Chinese government has implemented a Thai-Chinese free visa policy, or the exception for permanent visa registration. Thai people can travel to China and Chinese people can travel to Thailand without a visa and stay for up to 30 days.

Recently, the Chinese government has approved the visa-free entry of 9 other countries, totaling 38 countries, while citizens from 54 countries do not have to pay visa-free transit fees.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry announced on November 22, 2024, that from November 30, 2024, to December 31, 2025, it will try a visa-free policy for ordinary passport holders from nine countries: Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Latvia, and Japan. Under this policy, they can enter China without a visa and stay there for up to 30 days for business, travel, family visits, or transit.

Visa-free entry has previously been offered to ordinary passport holders from eight European countries including Slovakia, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Iceland, Andorra Monaco, and Liechtenstein, along with ordinary passport holders from France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and Spain which was launched on December 1, 2023, bringing the total number of countries eligible for visa-free status to 38 countries.

Last year, China implemented various experimental measures to welcome foreign tourists, including visa-free transit, allowing citizens from 54 countries to travel through the country without a visa in 72-144 hours, which is an interesting convenience.

Tourism experts view that this policy will greatly boost China’s tourism industry, especially after the recovery from the COVID-19 crisis. Recent figures show that the number of foreign tourists is approaching the pre-epidemic level.

In the third quarter of 2024, nearly 8.2 million foreign tourists visited China, an increase of 48.8%, with an estimated 4.9 million people traveling without visas, an increase of 78. 6% China has also developed additional services such as mobile payments, free visits to tourist destinations, multilingual services, and payment methods to make it easy for foreign tourists to purchase tickets.

These changes not only positively affect tourism but also attract foreign businessmen. During January-September, 42,000 foreign companies were newly established in China, an increase of 11.4% from the previous year.
